Lance Reddick played Sylens in Horizon Zero Dawn and Titan Vanguard Commander Zavala in Destiny 2.

Lance Reddick, the actor most well-known for starring in Destiny 2, Horizon Zero Dawn and numerous other films and TV series, has passed away at the age of 60. In the gaming sphere, he was probably most popular among Destiny 2 players as the voice of Titan Vanguard Commander Zavala.

Reddick’s wife Stephanie Reddick confirmed the sad news on Twitter:

Reddick had a powerful screen presence that made his many roles incredibly memorable, from the enigmatic Sylens searching for answers in Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, to the hotel concierge Charon in the John Wick franchise. Despite playing plenty of intimidating, nigh-villainous roles in his career, he never seemed like the kind of actor you could put in a box. He took his distinctive voice and poured it into many different kinds of roles over the course of his acting career, with his most recent projects being Albert Wesker in Netflix’s Resident Evil and Hellboy in the upcoming roguelike Hellboy: Web of Wyrd.

Reddick was also beloved among Destiny players for playing Commander Zavala, a Titan who plays a major role in the game and its subsequent expansions. Fans noted that Reddick was an avid fan of Destiny 2 himself, as the actor sunk 1,400 hours into the game and almost completed the new Lightfall expansion before he passed. Bungie said in a statement that, “Lance Reddick was an iconic presence on screen, in Destiny, and most importantly, in person.”

Guerrilla Games also took to Twitter to thank Reddick for his, “profound impact not just as part of our cast, but on our community,” for his work as Sylens in the Horizon franchise:

Thousands of Destiny 2 players are gathering in the Tower in-game to honour Reddick’s portrayal of Zavala this week, and they likely won’t stop anytime soon. Reddick himself was scheduled to take part in the press tour for John Wick: Chapter 4, which hits theaters this week. The late actor’s final tweet was a simple video of himself at home, with his dogs barking:
