Blizzard’s KFC collaboration is only the latest in a series of bizarre marketing stunts for Diablo 4.
In what is possibly the weirdest gaming collaboration of 2023 so far, KFC is teaming up with Blizzard Entertainment to give players a chance to get into Diablo 4’s upcoming beta early. All they have to do is shove an entire Double Down burger down their gullet and suffer the consequences for it!
From now until March 18, anyone who buys a KFC Double Down burger via KFC’s app or official website will receive a code to get into Diablo 4’s early access beta weekend. The early access beta runs from March 17 to 19, and was originally only available to anyone who pre-ordered the game - so if you have done so already, for God’s sake, spare your stomach the inevitable pain of having to digest a Double Down burger.
For those unaware, KFC’s Double Down burger eschews burger tradition by switching two pieces of bread for whole fried chicken patties, with some bacon, cheese and sauce sandwiched in the middle of the two patties for good artery-clogging measure. I’m not going to be all pious and say that I’ve never had one, but one can have too much of a good thing, and KFC’s fried chicken burgers are arguably not very good to begin with.
We checked KFC’s local social media in Southeast Asia and there is no mention of this Diablo collaboration, so this offer appears to be limited to the United States only. Never fear, however - all the rest of us have to do is wait an extra week to get into Diablo 4’s open beta, which runs from March 24 to 27. I’ve covered everything you need to know about both beta weekends here.
Blizzard has been on an intense marketing push for Diablo 4 leading up to the game’s launch, which has led to some truly bizarre events like a Diablo-inspired fashion show and renovating a cathedral into a Gothic Sanctuary-inspired art installation. Who knows what else the publisher has up its sleeves, but I, for one, am entertained.
Diablo 4 launches on June 6, 2023.
