MultiVersus Season 1 reveals new fighters Black Adam and a Gremlin

MultiVersus’ first season launches with Morty and two more newly-revealed fighters.

Warner Bros. Games has announced that DC Comics’ Black Adam and Stripe from Gremlins are joining MultiVersus in its first season of content, which kicks off this week. MultiVersus’ first season will also see the debut of Morty from Rick and Morty, a bunch of new cosmetics and more playable characters from the roster becoming free-to-play.

Black Adam joining MultiVersus isn’t too surprising, considering the DC Comics character will soon be represented in his own movie this October, with Dwayne Johnson starring as the lead - although there’s no word if Johnson will reprise his role for the game. The anti-hero will soon join other DC characters in the roster, including Wonder Woman, Batman, Harley Quinn and Superman.

Stripe is a little more out of left field, coming from a rather dormant IP under the Warner Bros. umbrella: Gremlins. Stripe appeared in the 1984 movie as a villainous mogwai who turns into a reptilian ‘Gremlin’ when it's fed after midnight, and begins to terrorise a family with its Gremlin cohorts. Neither Stripe nor Black Adam currently have a set release date in the game, but they will arrive sometime over the next two months within MultiVersus Season 1.

Morty of Rick and Morty will be the first new fighter to join Season 1 on August 23, while Rick is set to join the roster later on. The game’s roster currently consists of 17 characters all in all, with four more fighters - Black Adam, Stripe, Rick and Morty - soon to arrive in Season 1. More characters have been leaked to join the game in the near future, including characters from Looney Tunes, the Lord of the Rings and Godzilla.

Season 1 also kicks off a bimonthly rotation of free-to-play characters, allowing players to try out different fighters even if they’re low on currency. The season will drop in two patches, the first of which comes later today, and the second next week. The first rotation of free characters includes Arya, Steven Universe, LeBron James and Batman. Considering how grindy it is to get currency in this game, this is a pretty good opportunity to try out a large chunk of the roster.

Season 1 also consists of quite a few balance changes. Daily and seasonal missions are going to be easier to complete, making player progression a lot more fun. Characters like Arya and Taz have been buffed (after the latter got a recent nerf), while a few other fighters like Superman and Bugs Bunny have been nerfed. You can check out the patch notes for more details here.

MultiVersus is free-to-play on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
