Cuphead finally gets its own Netflix Original series.
The moment fans have been waiting for is finally here: Cuphead is getting its very own Netflix Original animated series named 'The Cuphead Show' that will debut on the streaming platform this coming February 18. That's not all though; Netflix also dropped its first full trailer of the animated series, which pays homage to the game's retro visual style.
Based on Studio MDHR's 2017 run-and-gun video game, The Cuphead Show will feature a dozen 12-minute long episodes that are described as a "character-driven comedy series". Much like the game, the series will follow brothers Cuphead and Mugman on their misadventures through the Inkwell Isles. The show will also introduce the main antagonist, The Devil himself.
Known for being insanely difficult, Cuphead has won plenty of awards since its release with many praising its soundtrack, scoring, as well as visual styles that were inspired by the rubber hose style from the golden age of American animation. The Cuphead Show does borrow many elements from the game, which will give fans of the game something to look forward to next month. There is also a quirky, yet fun minigame that players can participate in to help collect the stolen souls from the Devil.
As for the two-minute-long trailer, it couldn't be any more 'Cuphead-esque' with its slapstick violence, witty dialogue, and musical numbers. While its artwork may look like it's an animated series meant for kids, rest assured that that isn't the case. Judging by how the trailer looks, it draws plenty of comparisons from the game.
