Phlogiston is a unique power resource which can only be found in Natlan, used in both combat and exploration.
With the release of Natlan in Genshin Impact version 5.0, players were introduced to another new mechanic that will play a key role in both combat and exploration in the new region: Phlogiston. Characterised as an abundant source of energy and power, Phlogiston is an advanced form of the Pyro element that carries a deep spiritual significance to the people of Natlan.
In the overworld, Phlogiston exists in different forms and is utilised by locals as a resource to further excel in both movement and combat. Phlogiston can be used by indwelled Saurians and Natlan characters, and will manifest as a separate bar signifying its consumption.
Phlogiston fuels specific special skills in Natlan characters, specifically as an alternative to Nightsoul Points within Natlan when triggering a Nightsoul’s Blessing. While Saurians use Phlogiston as an energy resource to perform their specific abilities.
Phlogiston can come in different forms, specifically Liquid and Solid.
Solid Phlogiston, obviously, is a hardened form of Phlogiston that cannot be climbed by characters. Only the Tepetlisaurus, the mining Saurian, can break through or traverse Solid Phlogiston.
Liquid Phlogiston on the other hand, converge to create floating paths that allow for fast travel. These paths are known as Spiritways and can only be traversed by indwelled Kolohasauri or by a member of the tribe People of the Springs, like the playable 5-star Mualani.
Consuming Phlogiston does not have the same mechanics as your standard Stamina bar. Once depleted, Indwelled Saurians and Natlan characters need to find a way to refill their Phlogiston resource bar, luckily, Natlan has an abundance of Phlogiston sources at your fingertips.
Get your Phlogiston refill
The fastest way for a Natlan character to completely refill their Phlogiston resource bar is to simply teleport to a waypoint. But if you’re not too keen on leaving the area you’re currently exploring, or indwelled to a Saurian, Phlogiston can be found in these specific sources:
- Everflame Seed - this is a rocky circular structure that houses a small flame-like seed. Interacting with the Everflame Seed will refill your Phlogiston bar, as well as heal you if you’re indwelled to a Saurian,
- Flaming Seed of Phlogiston - these are Phlogiston particles which will incrementally fill your Phlogiston bar,
- Local specialties - specific local specialties in Natlan are sometimes infused with Phlogiston. Collecting these specialties will allow you to obtain Phlogiston Particles that can incrementally fill your Phlogiston resource bar. The local specialties are: Embercore flowers, Crystal Beetles, Candle Mushrooms, or Flamegranates.
- Pyro Crystalflies - Pyro Crystalflies are unique as opposed to its other variations as collecting their cores can also net you Phlogiston particles,
- Phlogiston Piles and Barrels - the overworld is littered with rock piles and barrels full of Phlogiston. Attacking and breaking these will net you Phlogiston particles.
Genshin Impact 5.0 is here! Featuring the new region of Natlan, the update includes three new characters in Mualani, Kinich, and Kachina, as well as tons of other content.
