With Natlan on the horizon, Genshin Impact version 4 is coming to an end. How good were the 4-stars released during the Fontaine versions?
Across the eight updates of Genshin Impact’s version 4, six new 4-star characters were introduced. But how do they stack up in the current meta? Were their abilities strong enough to make an impact? Are they worth adding to your roster?
Let’s dive into our ranking of all the new characters released during Genshin Impact’s version 4 updates!
6. Freminet (Cryo)
Freminet is a Cryo Claymore wielder designed around Physical Damage, a damage type that’s often overlooked and underappreciated in the current metagame. While he has the flexibility to trigger reactions like Superconduct and Shatter, his damage multipliers are relatively low, resulting in less-than-ideal output for competitive play.
Additionally, Freminet is prone to interruptions, which can make him frustrating to use in challenging endgame content such as the Spiral Abyss or Imaginarium Theatre. This sadly puts Freminet at the bottom of our list. (We still think he’s adorable, though!)
5. Sethos (Electro)
Sethos is an Electro bow Main DPS who focuses on triggering Bloom or Hyperbloom reactions, similar to his first friend Cyno.
However, Sethos underperforms as a DPS as he suffers from a clunky kit that sometimes forces him to become immobile when performing charged shots. He is also incredibly energy-hungry, making him difficult to utilise when you’re going through endgame content where every second spent gathering energy particles results in a DPS loss.
4. Lynette (Anemo)
Lynette is an Anemo sword user who can take on a Sub DPS role with her quick attacks or as an off-field DMG support with her Anemo swirls and crowd control. While she’s already a valuable character thanks to her element, Lynette generally underperforms compared to her other 4-star Anemo peers like Sucrose or Faruzan, no thanks to her high skill cooldown and energy cost.
3. Charlotte (Cryo)
Charlotte is a versatile Cryo catalyst support and healer who boasts one of the most fun and creative combat animations in Genshin Impact: dealing damage through her camera like a Fatal Frame protagonist. Charlotte is also a reliable support character who can consistently provide Cryo application thanks to her skill, a huge plus for players who thrive off of Frozen, Superconduct, and Melt reactions.
What bumps Charlotte down to 3rd however, is that her buff is restricted to only the characters from Fontaine, making her quite difficult to slot into teams that include premier DPS characters who aren't from Fontaine like Eula or Hu Tao.
2. Gaming (Pyro)
Gaming is a Pyro claymore DPS who surprised every Genshin Impact player with his highly competitive damage output that can rival even that of a 5-star, making him a rare 4-star addition to the top of the Pyro meta DPS list.
Gaming utilises Plunge attacks and is highly self-sufficient thanks to his self-healing abilities, and can reliably proc reactions like Vaporize, Melt, and Burgeon. Although Gaming does have his cons, he’s a worthy addition to your character roster if you’re looking to spice up your gameplay.
1. Chevreuse (Pyro)
Chevreuse takes our number one spot simply because she did what we thought was a pipe dream: making Overload a viable and powerful reaction.
Chevreuse is a Pyro polearm healer/support who focuses on dealing AoE Pyro attacks while also regenerating HP for your team. Her passives also strengthen the effects of Overload by both lowering your opponent’s Pyro and Electro Res while also increasing your party’s ATK.
If you’re looking to truly spice up your gameplay, and maybe even prepare for the upcoming Natlan update in version 5.0, Chevreuse is a character you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
Genshin Impact version 5.0 will be released on August 28 and will feature the new region of Natlan, three new characters in Mualani, Kinich, and Kachina, as well as tons of other updates. The newest version also comes with more generous rewards for players, including tons of Primogems for completing Archon Quests and a free standard 5-star character for every anniversary of the game moving forward.
