Genshin Impact version 4.8: Should you pull for Emilie or Yelan?

Version 4.8's second half is almost here, featuring the debut of new 5-star Dendro Polearm character Emilie.

Emilie is the long-awaited character that will finally utilise the oft-forgotten Dendro reaction ‘Burning’. And with Natlan coming right after version 4.8, we’re pretty sure she will become a valuable addition to your party as you begin your adventure in the Nation of Pyro.

The 5-star Hydro Bow character Yelan, on the other hand, is a powerful and versatile unit that has cemented herself as one of the most valuable picks in Genshin Impact’s metagame.

Still on the fence as to who you should pull for in the upcoming banner? Read on!

Emilie

Emilie is a Fontainian perfumer renowned for her mastery of scents. But as a playable character, Emilie plays with ‘Burning’, a Dendro-related reaction that focuses on making your enemies catch fire and take tons of Pyro DMG over time.

Burning has not been relevant to Genshin Impact’s meta since the Dendro Element was released, but with the nearing release of Natlan, the nation of fire, we can expect Burning to receive some relevance in the coming version updates.

Emily’s bread-and-butter is her skill, which allows her to summon a lamp that can deal Dendro DMG in regular intervals. Dealing Burning DMG while the lamp is active will further strengthen Emilie’s skill DMG. Emilie’s burst also works to further buff her skill. Because of this, she works as an off-field Sub DPS.

Emilie also scales off of ATK, which will theoretically make her a pretty easy character to build. She will work best with Pyro characters who can deal consistent Pyro DMG to keep the Burning reaction active when her skill is present. Pull for her if you want to see just what kind of DMG Burning-focused characters can do in anticipation of Natlan!

So far, it looks like Emilie will give benched Pyro characters like Thoma a new lease on life.

Yelan

Yelan on the other hand is one of the premier Hydro supports you can pull for. Often compared to the best Hydro support Xingqiu (yes, he truly is the best), Yelan distinguishes herself through her versatility,  HP scaling, and buffing capability.

Yelan’s skill allows her to do a fast dash around her enemies, tying them together with Hydro threads that will deal DMG after her dash ends. Her burst, which is her defining feature, lets Yelan deal AoE Hydro DMG before summoning Hydro attacks that can coordinate with your active character.

Yelan is a must have for teams that require Hydro to drive powerful reactions. Need a Vaporize, Electro-charged, Frozen, Bloom Hydro support? Yelan is your best bet to build your powerful meta-breaking dream team.

Yelan is fairly easy to build, since her burst coordinated DMG depends on her Max HP, you need to stack as much HP as you can. However, Yelan also needs a good crit and ATK ratio if you plan to push her towards a more offensive role.

And yes, Yelan can get offensive. She doesn’t need to be completely boxed into a support role, and she’s proven to be a very powerful DPS in her own right. Pull for her if you're looking to further amplify your teams!

Emilie and Yelan’s banners will be released on 6 August for Genshin Impact’s 2nd half. Afterwhich, we’re finally leaving Fontaine and entering Natlan in version 5.0.
