Quest's hopes for a Bali Major grand finals and TI invite are still alive as they take down PSG.LGD 2:0.
Thanks to their best efforts and the momentum from their win in Riyadh Masters 2023 qualifiers, Quest Esports have been able to keep their Bali Major Grand Finals hopes and TI invite dream going.
The WEU team need to secure at least a Grand Finals finish to gain enough points for the highly coveted ticket to Seattle.
Things began looking good for Quest early on in the event. They topped Group B for an upper bracket placement in the playoffs.
Quest picked Team Aster for the upper bracket quarterfinals. When asked about their choice, Ammar "ATF" Al-Assaf responded:
We chose Aster for two reasons: Firstly, if we beat Aster we would have a higher chance to qualify for TI via points. For us to qualify, we need Aster and BetBoom to get no points here. And secondly, I need to beat Emperor Sumail.
They were then able to overpower Team Aster 2:1 and advance further.
However, their next challenge was to take down Gaimin Gladiators — a tall order considering GG are back-to-back Major Champions this season. While they put up a good fight, Quest was overwhelmed and lost 1:2. They were dropped to the lower brackets to continue to fight for a place in the grand finals and their TI ticket.
Quest were hungry. They needed to take down PSG.LGD and they quickly showed they intended to do so. They absolutely shellacked the Chinese team, stomping all over them in just 19 minutes. LGD had no time or idea what was happening to them.
Things weren't the same for game 2 though. This time PSG.LGD were ready. They heavily dominated the game but when it came to close out the game they struggled. One fight became a 10k swing and everything changed in favor of Quest. Fights looked complicated, Tony "No!ob" Assaf was a force to be reckoned with and Quest were thriving, looking for those long games where they shine.
During the winner interview after their victory, OmaR stated:
We always know what to do, we always have a plan.
He did attribute part of their success though that they came in to the event without expectations. Something that ATF had also stated in the press conference
We came in here with no expectations. We came here to play and show our best. Of course, we would like to win and hopefully get to TI with this major. It's a very low chance that we going to do it via points, but we are hopeful
Quest will now face Team Liquid later today at 15:15 cest.
There are only WEU teams left as the top four of the event.
The action continues next with the upper bracket finals
