Lu “Somnus/Maybe” Yao appears to be returning to the competitive scene, reuniting with both Yang "Chalice" Shenyi and Xu “fy” Linsen.
One of Chinese Dota's most known carry players, Lu “Somnus/Maybe” Yao had retired (aka 'taken a break') from the competitive scene after Royal Never Give Up’s 13th-16th finish at The International 2022.
But as with most retirements in Dota 2 (and especially in the Chinese region), this was short-lived.
On the DPC registration page, Somnus, along with former teammates Xu “fy” Linsen and Yang "Chalice" Shenyi are now registered to YBB for the upcoming Tour 3.
It has been reported that Somnus, Chalice, and fy were casting the Berlin Major 2023 when Somnus commented that he wanted to compete professionally once again as he believed the new patch fit his aggressive playstyle. He also seems to have said he would play without any salary.
Fy, Somnus, and Chalice last played together on the PSG.LGD roster that finished 2nd at TI8 and 3rd at TI9. Currently, Somnus and Chalice were still listed on the active roster of RNG, however, the team has not competed after The International 11.
Following fy’s transfer to YBB, ViCi Gaming has dropped its full roster. The org failed to qualify for the Berlin Major and was relegated to China’s second division after a poor DPC Tour Two performance.
Meanwhile, Team Aster has already made a big change for the remaining season, bringing in Syed "SumaiL" Hassan on loan from Nigma Galaxy.
Fans are buzzing about the potential of this powerhouse lineup and being able to see this trio compete together once again at the upcoming TI in Seattle.
