Old G fall short in first DPC Tour qualifiers

Western Europe closed qualifiers for the 2022-2023 Dota Pro Circuit are done and dusted and unfortunately for the OG fans, the “old” roster didn’t make it.

Old G was put together just ahead of the open qualifiers for the upcoming DPC by the two-time TI champions Johan "N0tail" Sundstein, Sébastien "Ceb" Debs, and Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen. While the project was initiated with no intention of pushing the players to give their all this coming season, but rather to keep everyone entertained, the WEU closed qualifiers proved to be a bit tough for a team to dominate the completion with no practice.

After an almost free path in the open qualifiers, where plenty of their adversaries had forfeited the games, Old G began the upper bracket run in the closed qualifiers with another free victory. However, when they were just one series away from securing a spot in Division II, they got knocked down in the lower bracket in a pretty convincing manner by Ooredoo Thunders, who became the first team to qualify for next year’s DPC.

As in all regions, the WEU closed qualifiers had two spots up for grabs so, Old G got their second shot in the lower bracket finals against Monaspa, who is the same roster that competed under the Brame Esports in the previous season.

Dropped by the organization at the end of the third Tour in the 2021-2022 DPC season, the five former members of Brame Esports stuck together and pushed through the lower bracket rounds now to rejoin the WEU Division II.  They’ve done so by taking Old G down 2-0 with a Tinker draft in game one and a nearly perfect performance from their carry, Lasha "Nande" Narsia on Phantom Assassin in the second match.

For the next season, the DPC schedule got changed a bit. Besides the fact that the regional leagues will now unfold across three weeks’ time down from six weeks, the two divisions of each regional league will also be played one after another rather than simultaneously. This means that Division II matches will begin only at the very end of January 2023, on the 31st of the month while Division I will unfold January 8-29.
