The SEA regional qualifiers for WCA 2017 have come to a head with both Mineski and Execration taking a spot in the LAN finals scheduled to take place in December.
The SEA/APAC qualifiers for the LAN event featured a $50,000 prize pool and three stages - Open Qualifiers that started at the end of June, closed qualifeirs and the final stage qualifiers.
Mineski, under the guidance of Chai "Mushi" Yee Fung since March 2017, was invited directly to the closed qualifiers. Execration stepped in as one of the replacement teams when TnC Pro, Team Faceless, Fnatic and WG.Unity bowed out. Both teams took first place in their respective groups with spectacular performances resulting in 4:0 series records.
It was Mineski that would advance to the grand finals first as they sailed through the brackets with two consecutive 2:0 sweeps over their opponents. Execration had taken the road less traveled - through the lower brackets from the start. After falling to RRQ 2:1 in the first round they then picked up the pace and cleared through Clutch Gamers and RRQ.
Both teams will advance to the WCA 2017 LAN finals with the best-of-three grand finals being played out now to determine seeding and who will take home the larger share of the prize pool.
Final Stage Prizepool distribution:
- 1st place: ~$29,000+ slot for WCA 2017
- 2nd place: ~$14,000+ slot for WCA 2017
- 3rd place: ~$7,000 - RRQ
The qualifiers for North America, South America, Europe and China have yet to be played.
