For unknown reasons, Team DK has pulled out of the upcoming i-League LAN finals. A tiebreaker took place between LGD-Gaming, HGT and Newbee today with the TI4 champion emerging victorious.
According to 2p.com, Team DK has pulled out of i-League with an official statement yet to be given. It would've been the first showing of the newly formed team. Today, to find a replacement, tiebreakers were held between LGD-Gaming, HGT and Newbee. In a round-robin best-of-one format, the three teams faced off against each other. Newbee took down both of their adversaries and has thus earned their spot for the upcoming LAN finals.
A few weeks after The International 2014, Team DK and Vici Gaming have been voted into the i-League LAN finals as fan favorites. However, at the time the roster shuffle had not started yet and the new Team DK line-up was not even close to be formed. In fact, the line-up wasn't finished until a few weeks ago, after many had thought that Team DK would not field a roster this season at all. The team would still have been eligible to take their place at the i-League event.
Newbee was actually set to participate in the Excellent Moscow Cup to be held at the end of this week. However due to passport issues, the team had to withdraw from the tournament. LGD-Gaming has been picked up as a replacement, which leaves the question open why the team participated in the i-League tiebreakers, considering they are set to participate in Forum Hall, Moscow.
i-League is set to start on September 25th and will end on the 28th. Qualifiers for three regions had been held, with two spots for the Western division, one for the SEA region and three spots for the Chinese. Virtus.pro and Power Rangers were able to secure their spots in the Western qualifier with South-Korean team Rave winning the SEA qualifier. LGD.CDEC, invictus Gaming and Oldboys managed to grab the three open spots in the Chinese division. The format will be a single-elimination bracket with bo3s all around except for the bo5 finals.
