Electronic Sports League (ESL), recently disclosed their plans on building up a Dota 2 league on par with Intel Extreme Masters (IEM); an event concentrated towards League of Legends and StarCraft 2.
In a video interview with onGamers, Michal 'Carmac' Blicharz, ESL's Managing Director for Pro Gaming, discussed ESL's approach towards Dota 2 and hinted on their upcoming plans for Dota 2. He discusses ESL's venture into Dota 2 under the EMS ONE banner, and also sheds light on the relatively small venues allocated to the last two events held in Katowice, Poland as compared to the huge venue allocated to League of Legends and StarCraft 2 for IEM, also held in Katowice.
Carmac further discusses ESL's involvement in Dota 2 and League of Legends from a business point of view and Dota 2's future at ESL. When pushed further, Carmac reveals the big plans ESL has in store for Dota 2; a new league on par with Intel Extreme Masters. The implementation of a Dota 2 league as grandular as IEM on a large scale basis, would definitely prove to be a blessing in disguise for Dota 2.
Quotes taken from Carmac:
We're building a [Dota 2] league which is on par with Intel Extreme Masters
There is some really fucking exciting shit that we are announcing for Dota, so it's not like we are being paid to never touch Dota
Can this new league become a stronghold name in the competitive scene and compete alongside other established events such as Dreamleague, Major League Gaming and Dota 2 Champions League? Here's hoping to ESL being successful in their endeavours.
