PGL Wallachia Season 2 is the first premier tournament of the 2024-2025 Dota 2 season. While not many of the tier 1 teams are in attendance, the tournament does fill the post-TI13 lull. Additionally, Dota 2 patch 7.37d was released just before the tournament, which makes things a little more interesting. We have already taken a look at how balance patch 7.37d has impacted the tournament.
The Swiss format is getting more popular in Dota 2 tournaments, and PGL Wallachia is one event that uses it to eliminate half the playing field in the initial stage while promoting the other half to the playoffs. As eight of the 16 teams move ahead into the playoffs, let’s take a look at the team and hero statistics for the Swiss stage of the tournament.

A lot of the heroes seen here are the same ones from TI13, because the meta hasn’t shaken up a whole lot, and teams are still reeling from the long tournament that was TI13. For players who competed in Copenhagen and are playing at PGL Wallachia Season 2 right away, old habits will take a little bit of time to change. However, differences can definitely be seen in the fact that heroes like Enchantress, Invoker, and Sand King, who did really well at TI13, have seen a massive drop in their win rate. These heroes are bound to see a drop in their contest rate in the playoffs. Others like Naga Siren continue to be dominant in the contest rate and win rate departments. 99 heroes picked is already the same number as TI13, with the difference being PGL Wallachia Season 2 has seen 41 fewer games. With teams having a little bit of time to formulate new strategies, some surprises will be seen in the playoffs in the bans and picks.
This is a unique part of the season where there are a lot of roster shuffles and teams are experimenting with players as well as playstyles. The unlikely tournament winners typically emerge in the early part of the season when there are a lot of moving parts. It won’t be surprising to see some names that have re-emerged after a hiatus make it far at PGL Wallachia Season 2.
