The first premier Dota 2 tournament of 2024 is halfway done. BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024 completed its group stages with 60 games played across 12 teams evenly distributed in two groups. It’s the first tournament after TI12 where all the best teams in the world compete for the top prize, and competition has already been pretty fierce.

Some heroes like Doom and Timbersaw had extremely high contest rates, while others like Slark and Mars had significantly higher than average win rates for the few games they were picked. On the hero front, there are a lot of new names seen as compared to what we were seeing at TI12. This is in line with what was seen in the meta analysis for Dota 2 patch 7.35 based on the early professional games played on the patch. Patch 7.34e subdued a lot of the TI12 dominating heroes, and patch 7.35 well and truly shook up the entire meta. It is good to see some new strategies in professional games, and things will only get better as more tournaments come and go.

On the team's front, the two TI12 finalists, Team Spirit and Gaimin Gladiators are in the upper bracket. They have picked up where they left off in a way. But based on the group stages, it is the Chinese teams LGD Gaming and Xtreme Gaming that are the ones to watch out for. It has been a while since China has dominated a Dota 2 season, and if they can assert their dominance early on in the 2023-2024 Dota 2 season, it could set us up for a fascinating year of Dota 2!
