After a hard fought match against Poland, France takes the Electronic Sports European Championship for 2014.
Out of the 24 nations that participated in the tournament, only Finland, Sweden, France, and Poland (who had to fill in for Denmark) survived far enough along the playoffs to be able to attend the the LAN finals held in Belgrade, Serbia.
Finland quickly dropped out of the brackets, not winning a single map against their opponents Poland and Sweden. The Swedes also got knocked out of the tournament, winning the first lower bracket match against Finland after their initial defeat versus France, but falling against the Polish onslaught in round two of the lower bracket. However, they did secure 3rd place The Polish team was fortunate enough to replace Denmark after the Danes had to pull out from the event due to school and other commitments. However, they were also unfortunate to have fallen against France twice, once in the second round of the upper brackets, and once in the finals.
The French played spectacularily against their opponenets, losing only two maps in the entire event. One to Sweden in the first round, and eventually one to Poland in the Finals. The best of 5 only went to three maps (2-1 score) because France secured themselves a map advantage in the best of 5 match due to their upper bracket advantage. They win the lion's share of the $10,000 prize pot, some snazzy gold medals, as well as their nation's pride, as they can call themselves the best European nation for Counter-Strike:Global Offensive.
