It was April Fools yesterday, and with it came a bunch of pranks. These are the ones that we saw in the Overwatch community.
We were happy to yesterday enjoy (and participate) in celebration of April Fools, with a surprisingly high amount of participation from our still young scene. Please enjoy some of the best ones that we noticed yesterday:
/r/gaming: “New Overwatch character announced”
Riding on the back of the Tracer over the shoulder pose controversy, a user by the name of /u/the_starship posted the above image to the /r/gaming subreddit, with the title “New Overwatch character announced”. The image is a reference to this classic scene from The Simpsons:
You can visit the Reddit thread here.
@OverwatchGG: “Scout moving to Overwatch.”
Again in reference to the Tracer over the shoulder pose controversy, popular Overwatch news and community spotlight Twitter account @OverwatchGG posted this tweet.
You can view the tweet here.
/r/Overwatch Battle.net notification
In one of the coldest pranks of them all, the mods of /r/Overwatch edited the page to make it seem as though Overwatch was now available to play with a fake Battle.net popup, seen above. The salt rose to even higher numbers yesterday, but it was all in good fun.
Blizzard Korea’s “Overwatch”
Blizzard Korea went to the next level with their April Fool’s Day prank. They created a full promotional page for a new Collector’s Edition exclusive item: the Overwatch, an oversized watch styled after Overwatch characters. The page included images of people actually wearing the watch, a full list of features, and several designs. It’s all in Korean and can’t be translated that easily, but /u/BoozyPelican on the /r/Overwatch subreddit provided a rough translation of a blog post summary about the watch:
“Wear it on your wrist. Get biceps.
Prior to the formal launch of Overwatch to introduce a very special watch. It is the oversized watches ' ??Overwatch '. Overwatch is a high-tech intensive large clock all Blizzard of technology and know-how. For more information, please visit the special introduction.”

World of Warcraft Legion Alpha - Patch Note Preview
Another April Fool’s Day Prank from Blizzard, fake patch notes for the WoW Legion Alpha. Though not focusing specifically on Overwatch, there were a few cheeky references in there, which can be seen above.
You can view the patch notes here.
GosuGamers' “GosuGamers Weeklies now using Hero Pick/Ban system!”
Finally, we had our own April Fool’s Day prank, in which we announced that the Weeklies would be switching to a MOBA style drafting system featuring picks and bans, and preventing hero switching entirely. We hope you enjoyed our own contribution, and feel we did fairly well and convinced quite a few people.
