GeForce 5200 or higher to play StarCraft 2

Blizzard responds to the never-ending system requirement question in a press conference in China.

What is a pixel shader?

A pixel shader serves to manipulate a pixel, usually to apply an effect on an image, for example; realism, bump mapping, shadows, and explosion effects.

Next to the question about multi-building selection (MBS), the most common question that the Blizzard development team gets is what the system requirements for StarCraft 2 are. This weekend, Blizzard finally answered, or at least gave us a hint, on some of what you may need to play the sequel.

- For the game is still refining, we cannot decide it yet. But the game used Pixel Shader 2.0, your system has to support it in order to run the game; also your video card shall be higher than GeForce 5200, said the Blizzard representative at the Q&A session in China.

Campaign question also somewhat answered

Other common questions are around the single player campaign, where Blizzard shed some light on the issue in the same Q&A session.

- The campaign will be of a tree-shape arrangement, players can choose different passages, different level-ups and different bonuses during their playing. The frameworks of the game is done, but the order of three campaigns matching different races has not been decided yet, said the Blizzard representative.

The session mostly brought up topics on a special Chinese Battle.net, as the Chinese players usually connect to a private server and play because of the lag problems on the Asia server. Not only will there be a special Chinese Battle.net, but Blizzard also promises of a much more powerful observing system put in place. This should allow a much larger audience to view a single match.
