The initial playtest will be available for players in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Brazil, Japan, and Mexico.
It's been a while since we’ve heard from Riot Games about 2XKO™, the League of Legends fighting game, but on Friday (28 June), they finally announced the dates for the Alpha Lab playtest.
2XKO™(previously known as Project L), is set in a contemporary take on the League of Legends universe, Runeterra.
Rooted in the appeal of fighting games, it prioritises mastery, player expression, and competitive intensity, while also providing intuitive controls and gameplay for quick enjoyment.
When is the Alpha Lab playtest?
The 2XKO™ Alpha Lab playtest is scheduled from 8 – 19 August, and is open to players in the UK, USA, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, and France.
This playtest will be available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5. Participants must choose one platform upon acceptance and stick with it throughout the test.
Note that progress made during the playtest will not carry over to the full release of the game.
If you’re one of the lucky ones from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Brazil, Japan, and Mexico and are looking forward to testing the game before its release, we’ve got you covered. Here’s how you can sign up for the 2XKO™ Alpha Lab playtest:
Joining 2XKO™'s Alpha Lab play test requires registration on 2XKO™’s official sign-up page. To register, you'll need to provide a valid email address and your Riot account details.
After that, a survey will be sent to your email. You won't be guaranteed access to the playtest, but completing the survey will put you in the running for an invitation.
Additionally, each participant invited to the Alpha Lab playtest will receive a referral to grant a friend early access to the game. Each player is allotted a single referral.
Riot has also confirmed that more playtests will be held in the future, with plans to expand these tests to include additional regions.
What can I expect during the Alpha Lab playtest?
According to a video posted by Riot Games on Twitter, the Alpha Lab playtest is going to be 2XKO™’s earliest version or the “first version draft” of the game.
“This is the next step [in] building this game together with players,” Tom Cannon, 2XKO™ executive producer said.
In the video, he confirmed that it won’t just be about the core gameplay and will be an online playtest where you get to play with other folks online.
“The whole experience of like how you get into the game, what are the other things to do other than fight, we have some ideas, and we’ve put them together in a package.”
New champion confirmed
Currently, the 2XKO™ roster consists a slim of five champions so far: Darius, Ekko, Ahri, Yasuo, and Illaoi.
However, the devs have confirmed the addition of a new champion for the Alpha playtest. Although the new champion has not been confirmed yet, we’re guessing this new champion might in fact, be Jinx.
Jinx has appeared in previews back when 2XKO™ was called “Project L.” However, she’s been MIA for the last three years—but it won’t be a surprise if she will make a reappearance this time around.
Another potential champion who could be introduced is Katarina. In the early days of project L, Katarina also appeared in dev videos, but hasn't resurfaced since. However, with more than 160 champions in LoL, the possibilities are endless and we won't know until it has been really confirmed.
2XKO™ will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2025.
