Final Fantasy 16 fans might have two expansions to look forward to in the near future.
Final Fantasy 16 is finally getting a PC version, according to a video message from game producer Naoki Yoshida. Yoshida took to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to share the news. He also confirmed that, “two installments of paid DLC,” are in the works.
In the video, Yoshida said that, “While Final Fantasy 16 launched as a Playstation 5 exclusive, we are aware that many of you have been asking for a PC version. So, allow me to take this opportunity to officially announce that development on a PC version is currently underway.” It sounds like work on the PC port has only begun recently, so fans probably shouldn’t expect it to arrive by the end of the year.
Yoshida also noted that the development team has been looking into feedback for their game now that it’s been out in the wild for a few months, and saw that, “people wanted to see more of Valisthea’s story and spend more time with her inhabitants.” As such, the team is now working on two separate paid DLCs - possibly expansions - for the game. Yoshida said that he hopes to share more news on both the PC version and these DLCs by the end of 2023, so both DLCs are probably not coming out anytime soon either.
Square Enix has repeatedly stated that Final Fantasy 16 was released as a full and complete experience with no plans for DLC whatsoever, but widespread praise for the game might have changed the company’s mind. Given that Yoshida specifically mentioned that fans wanted more out of Valisthea and her inhabitants, it’s likely that these DLC plans could consist of expansions or a few new story quests for existing characters. Certain parts of the campaign could also be expanded on, like its mysterious epilogue or the unexplained absence of the Eikon Leviathan.
Yoshida also announced a free DLC update for Final Fantasy 16 this week, adding a transmog feature that lets Clive switch out his swords without affecting his stats. The DLC also adds alternate outfits for Clive, Jill, Torgal, Ambrosia (Clive’s Chocobo) and a character who’s best left unnamed for the sake of spoilers, along with a new sword from Final Fantasy 3. These new outfits can be accessed via the Arete Stone in Clive’s Hideout.
