Among Us developer Innersloth will be involved in the series’ production.
Among Us is officially getting an animated series adaptation with the involvement of its developers at Innersloth and CBS Studios. Owen Dennis, creator of the Cartoon Network animated series Infinity Train, will serve as creator and executive producer.
Obviously, Innersloth is very excited about the project:
The show will reportedly stay accurate to the game’s core premise, with a logline that reads: “Members of your crew have been replaced by an alien shapeshifter intent on causing confusion, sabotaging the ship, and killing everyone. Root out the ‘Impostor’ or fall victim to its murderous designs.” It sounds like a single match of the game - wherein crewmates work together to fix their ship and root out the Impostor - is getting expanded upon for an entire series.
Animation Studio Titmouse will work on the series, having previously worked on streaming shows like Big Mouth and Star Trek: Lower Decks. The series isn’t attached to any network or streamer as of right now, but Variety reports that, “those conversations are said to be ongoing,” and with an IP as popular as Among Us, one can safely expect Netflix to at least throw their hat in the ring. Paramount+ is also a possibility, seeing as they already have a solid working relationship with Titmouse thanks to Lower Decks, and CBS Studios fall under Paramount anyway.
If you’re not familiar with Among Us, you’d have to have been completely off the grid in 2020 when the game skyrocketed in popularity thanks to a handful of Twitch streamers. The game actually launched back in 2018 with a sequel in the works, but that sequel was axed in favour of more content for the base game owing to its sudden leap into the center of pop culture.
Owen Dennis is currently the only known talent attached to the series besides Titmouse, but anyone who’s seen his previous series Infinity Train would know that he’s capable of giving this game the right treatment. Among Us has a very thin layer of lore for the series to adapt, but Infinity Train was a fantastic series with strong character work, a lot of heart and most importantly, a lot of imagination despite its contained premise. Hopefully, that extends to this project too.
