The LPL will be the first regional league to kickstart the 2022 competitive season.
After an intense transfer window period, we are now ready to begin the 2022 competitive season, starting with the LPL Spring Split. It's expected to begin next Monday, January 10 5.00 pm UTC+8 and will go on for a total of nine weeks before it heads to the playoffs stage. To kick off the LPL 2022 Spring Split will be Oh My God versus ThunderTalk Gaming.
It's worth noting that multiple games will be played every day with two matches from Monday through Thursday while Friday to Sunday has three matches a day. The first three weeks will take place from 10 - 27 January, which there will then be a two-week break for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations. The spring split will then reconvene from February 10 onwards to see through the rest of the split.
The LPL has also taken the opportunity to once again rebrand its official logo with the last one happening just two years ago. It also features a brand new slogan: "Crazy is our game." With that, fans can look forward to some new changes brought to the regional league, which also includes a different stage as well as two new teams: Anyone's Legend (formerly known as Rogue Warriors) and Weibo Gaming (formerly known as Suning).
This will also be Victory Five's last time in the LPL as come the summer split, they will be known as Ninjas in Pyjamas after merging with the Swedish esports organisation. As for the rest of the league, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top after a massive roster shuffle for all squads. Plenty of teams has moved players and coaches around to find the best possible unit to compete day in and day out in the LPL.
As of right now, not much is known about the format of the 2022 Spring Split aside from the fact that there will be nine weeks worth of games to look forward to. It will also be a single round-robin, best-of-three series with possibly the top 10 teams making it through like before.
The winner of the LPL 2022 Spring Split will represent the region in the upcoming Mid-Season Invitational, which is expected to go ahead if the pandemic doesn't hinder it any further. Be sure to tune in on January 10 when the LPL 2022 Spring Split begins.
