American Hearthstone players have more chances than ever to break out.
Competitive Hearthstone is heavily skewed. With the majority of LANs situated in Europe, the region confidently dominated the landscape in 2015 and 2016 but one tournament organizer is striving to change that.
Atlanta, Montreal and Denver are the three new circuit stops added to the DreamHack Grand Prix for 2017. This means that the most prestigious third-party Hearthstone circuit will visit more locations in North America than in Europe, with four in NA, counting the season opener in Austin, to three on the old continent.
For Europe, Valencia will remain the only venue outside Jonkoping, Sweden, to feature the official DreamHack circuit.
With $25,000 in prizes for each main event and an additional $1,500 for the side tournaments, the total prize pool for DreamHack’s Grand Prix has also doubled, sitting at $185,500. Apart from the money and the prestige, the DreamHack circuit has also been responsible for some of the most memorable stories in Hearthstone, including Radu “Rdu” Dima’s two-times championship, one of the few international victories for China through Xieyu “TiddlerCelestial” Wang, the break-out performances of Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk and Peter “Gaara” Stevanovic and the impressive run of Aleksandr “Kolento” Malsh which catapulted him to a 2014 Player of the Year award.
The first event is headed for Austin, TX on April 28-30.
