A new Hearthstone tournamend dubbed HearthWars is scheduled to start one week after DreamHack, on June 23rd. HearthWars will feature a buy-in system, meaning the players themselves will contribute to the total prize pool.
The tournament will feature a total of sixteen players, divided into four round robin group. Matches between the players in the group stage will be a Bo3 with the top player of each group advancing into a single elimination playoff bracket. From there, matches go up to Bo5 series and two round later, a champion will be crowned.
For the first edition, organizers have set a buy-in amount of $10, totaling to a final prize pool of $160. $100 will go to the winner, $40 to the runner-up and $20 to the bronze medalist, meaning everyone else will go home empty handed.
According to HearthWars' hosts, the invites will be extended shortly after the completion of the upcoming DreamHack Summer. Members of six teams will be invited, invluding Tempo Storm, vVv, Meet Your Makers, DKMR, Good Guy, Managrind and Ferus plus other "special guests". Players will be seeded in such a way as to avoid a team kill in the first round. Games will be cast by Andrey "Reynad" Yanyuk on HearthWars' official Twitch stream.
