No Dragon Age: The Veilguard expansions planned as BioWare moves on to Mass Effect 5

Developer BioWare is already moving on from Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Electronic Arts and BioWare are unlikely to release any DLC or expansions for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, breaking a lonstanding pattern for the RPG franchise. In an interview with Rolling Stone, creative director John Epler confirmed that BioWare’s “full attention has shifted entirely to the next Mass Effect” following the launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard last week.

The next Mass Effect game has been in the works since 2020 at least, but currently has no release date or title.

No plans for Dragon Age: The Veilguard expansions

BioWare’s highly-anticipated new RPG Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched last week, but fans are already looking forward to the next big thing. The developer is known to release expansions for most of its mainline RPGs, such as Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Trespasser or Mass Effect 3’s Citadel expansions. These expansions often go on to become fan-favourite content in their respective games.

No such luck for Dragon Age: The Veilguard fans, it seems. In an interview with Rolling Stone, BioWare confirmed that “there are currently no plans for downloadable expansions.”

Additionally, the development team’s “full attention has now shifted entirely to the next Mass Effect as their current project.”

While it’s likely that the game will still get minor content updates for bug fixes and quality-of-life changes over the next few months, it’s far less likely that players are going to get full-blown expansions for the game. That seems like a shame, considering that BioWare has such a great track record with its expansions in general.

The developer announced that a new Mass Effect game was in development back in 2020, confirming that it will feature a return to the original trilogy’s narrative and characters, the latter of which include Liara T’Soni. The game is being developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, but little else is known about it as of right now. We’ll likely get another sneak peek at its development on November 7 this week, otherwise known as ‘N7 Day’ for Mass Effect fans.

BioWare has dropped a new teaser for the next Mass Effect game every N7 Day since 2020, the latest of which was this video:
