Outlast, lauded as “one of the scariest games of all time”, is getting a movie adaptation headed by Lionsgate Studio.

Iconic survival horror series Outlast is set to be brought to the big screen after developer Red Barrels struck a deal with studio Lionsgate to head the game's movie adaptation, according to an exclusive report by Bloody Disgusting. Outlast, released in 2013, is considered as one of the scariest video games of all time for its visceral and unrelenting horror, gory visuals, and signature jumpscares.

Outlast tells the story of Miles Upshur, a freelance investigative journalist who is embroiled in a scientific conspiracy after a whistleblower exposes the truth behind Mount Massive Asylum and the company, Murkoff Corporation, backing it. What he discovers is beyond whatever he could have expected.

Now, 11 years after entering the scene, Outlast is finally getting its big screen adaptation.

The movie will be produced by prolific horror film producer Roy Lee, who is known for horror movie hits like It, Barbarian, Late Night With the Devil, and the American remakes for The Ring and The Grudge. While the screenplay will be done by J.T Petty, who was deeply involved in the story of the Outlast games.

With J.T Petty heading the screenplay, we're sure to expect a pretty faithful adaptation ahead. Here's to hoping it doesn't turn out like Resident Evil or Silent Hill!
