Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has officially arrived, and players across the globe can dive into the game on iOS and Android starting from Wednesday, 30 October.
Designed for both newcomers and seasoned fans, Pokémon TCG Pocket offers a way to “enjoy Pokémon cards anytime, anywhere, on your mobile device,” according to The Pokémon Company. With easy-to-navigate features, players can open virtual booster packs, build decks, and engage in exciting battles. The game introduces 'immersive' cards—a unique new type of card featuring interactive 3D art—alongside beloved illustrations from the physical game and all-new cards exclusive to the digital format.
If you're all new to this but are curious to experience what it's like to play the mobile Pokemon TCG, we've got you covered. Here's everything you need to know about Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket.
Gameplay: Build, Battle, and Collect
Starting out, players will receive two free opportunities to open booster packs, each containing five random cards, with a chance to pull rare ones. Opening packs mimics the tactile thrill of the physical game: after selecting a booster, players swipe to tear open the pack. They can then sort through their fresh cards before adding them to the in-game Dex.
To keep collections growing, players can open booster packs every 12 hours or unlock additional packs with a Premium Pass. For more frequent openings, Pack Hourglasses, earned by completing missions, can reduce waiting times by an hour each. Alternatively, players can spend 6 Poke Gold per pack, with a daily cap of 720 Poke Gold, to further boost their collection.
Wonder Pick: A Chance for Extra Rares
Pokémon TCG Pocket features Wonder Pick, a system that allows players to take valuable cards from other players' booster packs without affecting the original. That means the original owner of these cards won't be affected, but you will certainly benefit from their collection. Wonder Pick uses an energy system, allowing players multiple daily openings to enhance their card collection and possibly score rare finds.
Card Battles: Casual Duels and A.I. Challenges
The game’s battle feature lets players test their decks in casual matches, either in solo play against A.I. or in multiplayer against other players. While Ranked Battles haven’t launched yet, the developers have hinted at future updates to expand competitive options.
Card Trading: Coming Soon
And what’s a TCG without card trading? An essential feature of any trading card game, player-to-player card trading will soon be available as a post-launch update, allowing collectors to exchange cards directly.
