Control multiplayer spin-off FBC: Firebreak unveiled
Alan Wake 2 and Control maker Remedy Entertainment has officially unveiled its next game - FBC: Firebreak, a multiplayer spin-off of Control. The game will take players back to familiar locations in the Oldest House, the enigmatic headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Control. Set after the events of Control, this game has players step into the shoes of an armed unit called Firebreak as it tries to stop a “years-long siege on the agency’s headquarters.”
FBC: Firebreak is also Remedy’s first multiplayer game ever, although the company notes in an Xbox Wire post that it won’t be a ‘game as a service’. Despite the discarded label, the game will still get “a steady supply of new content” post-launch. It will be a three-player co-op first-person shooter, where players have to team up and tackle a series of chaotic co-op missions set in The Oldest House.
Players will get to use Altered items in combat called ‘paranatural augments’, which have been retrofitted into tool attachments. For example, the Garden Gnome that explodes in the trailer above. These are described as Remedy’s take on ultimate abilities, which can affect anyone on the battlefield indiscriminately - be they friend or foe.
FBC: Firebreak is also described as a “pick-up-and-play experience” that won’t have players “logging in every day for some loot or fear of missing out on materials.” That means players likely won’t have to tick off dailies to complete an in-game battle pass, but things could change. As for fans of Control, Remedy affirms that it wanted to make sure that “FBC: Firebreak was a legitimate and impactful part of that history and lore” with “more of Control’s world.” That being said, it will still be a standalone experience.
FBC: Firebreak will launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It will also be on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Also revealed at the Xbox Partner Preview Showcase was Alan Wake 2’s Lake House DLC, which launches on October 22:
