Bungie is making a mobile version of Destiny, and it’s entering limited access next month.
Bungie has officially revealed a mobile spin-off of its looter-shooter franchise Destiny, expanding upon its sci-fi universe with an alternate timeline. This means the mobile game will be set in a separate continuity from Destiny and Destiny 2. It’s also set to enter a “limited access closed alpha test” on mobile platforms this November.
The game is being developed by Bungie and NetEase:
Bungie and NetEase announce Destiny: Rising mobile spin-off
Bungie has officially revealed Destiny: Rising, a free-to-play mobile game spinning off its sci-fi shooter franchise Destiny. Much like the original games, this will be a multiplayer game with different game modes set in a shared world. There is one key differentiator, however: the game features “a brand-new adventure set in an alternate Destiny timeline, exploring a narrative in the post-Dark Age era.”
That means it won’t be beholden to Destiny 2’s official canon, with its own story timeline and characters. The game is being developed in partnership with NetEase Games (Marvel Rivals). Here’s how Bungie describes the game:
As a genesis of new possibilities in the Destiny Universe, Destiny: Rising delves into an unseen era where burgeoning hope blooms once again after a terrifying collapse of civilization and the dangers of the resulting Dark Age. With the help of legendary Iron Lords, humanity has broken free the shackles of tyranny and began to rally together against the alien forces intent on its extinction. Amidst the chaos of this early age for The City, a new generation of Lightbearers, resurrected by mysterious entities known as Ghosts, set out to restore humanity's prominence and secure its future.
Destiny: Rising will feature first-person and third-person combat, with a variety of playable characters. The game is also opting out of giving players the option of picking classes and subclasses like Destiny 2 did. Instead, players will step into the shoes of familiar characters from the games like Cayde-6, who will each feature their own ability kits.
The mobile game will still feature campaign missions and six-player PvE strikes, however, along with a host of new PvE and PvP modes. According to Bungie, there will also be "countless" exotic weapons available for customisation. The game can be played with a controller or using regular touchscreen controls.
Destiny: Rising doesn’t have a release date yet, but a “limited access closed alpha test” is scheduled to run from November 1, 2024 on iOS and Android platforms. You can register for the alpha test on the game’s official website.
