Sony will offer refunds for Concord after pulling the game from sale this Friday.
ony Interactive Entertainment and developer Firewalk Studios are officially taking their 5v5 hero shooter Concord offline this Friday a mere two weeks after the game launched on PlayStation 5 and PC. The game reportedly launched to very poor sales with just 25,000 copies estimated to be sold across both platforms. According to Steam Charts, it peaked at just 697 concurrent players at launch.
Sony will offer refunds for players who purchased Concord on Steam, Epic Games Store and PlayStation 5 when the game goes offline on September 6.
Sony and Firewalk Studios pull Concord from sale, offer refunds
In a PlayStation Blog post penned by Firewalk’s game director Ryan Ellis, the developer admitted that “while many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognise that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended.”
While this spells the end of Concord in its current form, Firewalk also hints that the game might live on in other ways. The post states that Firewalk will “explore options, including those that will better reach our players” after taking the game offline, “while we determine the best path ahead.”
Concord sales will cease starting from today, as Firewalk offers full refunds for everyone who bought the game on PlayStation 5 or PC. Once the game is refunded, players will, of course, have zero access to the game. The fact that Sony and Firewalk have been so quick to take Concord offline suggests that it has been an unmitigated financial failure for both companies. The game reportedly took six years to develop, and survived for all of two weeks.
Despite being taken offline, Concord will still be featured in an episode of Amazon’s upcoming game anthology series Secret Level. In our review of the game, we wrote: “With a $40 price tag and a slim chance of survival, it’s hard to recommend Concord despite its fun matches and gorgeous sci-fi visuals.”
