Diablo 4’s Season of the Infernal Hordes launches next week.
Diablo 4 is adding an all-new game mode in its upcoming fifth season of content, titled Season of the Infernal Hordes. This season will add a new rogue-lite wave-based game mode called Infernal Hordes, along with more than 50 Uniques and Legendaries, and new Hellbreach Dungeons. Season 5 launches on August 6 at 10 am PT. Unlike previous seasons which typically operate on three-month cycles, this season will conclude in October when the Vessel of Hatred expansion arrives.
Diablo 4 Season 5’s new Infernal Hordes game mode
Blizzard Entertainment has finally unveiled Diablo 4’s Season of the Infernal Hordes, following early testing of its content on the Public Test Realm (PTR). It now arrives with several changes based on PTR feedback, with a wave-based mode called The Infernal Hordes, new dungeons, and many items to hunt down. The Infernal Hordes mode can be taken on by a solo player or with some friends in co-op multiplayer, and it’s coming to both the Seasonal Realm and Eternal Realm. That means you’ll be able to try it out using characters created from past seasons.
To access the mode, you’ll have to complete a Seasonal Questline on the Seasonal Realm - or a new questline on the Eternal Realm at World Tier 3. This mode involves defeating hordes of enemies in waves, with the option to pick up boons and banes called Infernal Offerings that can make a run more difficult in between every wave. In return for making a run more difficult, these Infernal Offerings will increase the final rewards gained after completion.
At the end of an Infernal Hordes run, players will have their might tested by three random members of the Fell Council. These Fell priests return from Diablo 2 in corrupted form, championing Mephisto after originally fighting to put him down.
If that still isn’t enough of a challenge for you, Season 5 also adds new Hellbreach Dungeons to the Seasonal Realm, giving players a similar challenge as the Infernal Hordes mode. These dungeons will reward players with a resource called Burning Aether that can be spent on chests. Speaking of loot, this season also brings more than 50 new Unique and Legendary items, and they’re here to stay - persisting even after the season ends.
According to Blizzard, Infernal Hordes will be one of the best ways players can earn caches and increase their reputation throughout this season. Season 5 also sees the usual battle pass system return with 28 free tiers and 62 premium tiers to progress through.
Blizzard is hosting a Developer Update livestream on August 1 (11 am PDT) to unveil more information on Season of the Infernal Hordes, which you can check out on their Twitch and Youtube channels. Season 5 launches on August 6 at 10 am PT.
