The open world gacha game Wuthering Waves is coming to the PlayStation 5 soon.

Kuro Games has announced that a PlayStation 5 port of Wuthering Waves is officially in development. The open world gacha game launched on PC and mobile platforms earlier in May this year, but there is currently no confirmed release date for its PlayStation 5 release. The developer has promised to, “provide updates on the official launch time of the PS5 version in the future.”

Wuthering Waves confirms PlayStation 5 release

The free-to-play open world game Wuthering Waves is officially coming to PS5 consoles. Developer Kuro Games announced the news on Twitter/X, saying that the PS5 version of Wuthering Waves is, “now in development.” The announcement did not include any mention of the PlayStation 4, so it’s safe to assume that Kuro Games is skipping last-gen consoles for now.

Some have taken this announcement to mean that the developer is only now starting work on a PS5 version of Wuthering Waves, but this port might actually be further along in development than that. In an earlier interview with The Loadout, the developer had confirmed that it has, “a plan [to release] on console, but we’re still working on it.”

Sony later confirmed that it would feature Wuthering Waves at ChinaJoy 2024 this weekend, which might give us an early look at the port. If the game comes out on PS5 consoles soon, it might be able to capitalise on its already immense success on mobile platforms, having achieved 30 million downloads in its first month of release alone.

Wuthering Waves follows an amnesiac Rover, who awakens from a mysteriously deep slumber in a post-apocalyptic world. A catastrophe called the Lament has wiped out most of civilisation and created monsters called Tacet Discords, and the Rover has to team up with allies called Resonators to fight them.

Wuthering Waves is currently available on mobile platforms and PC.
