Apex Legends’ new season introduces a chaotic new playable Legend named Alter.

Electronic Arts has dropped a new trailer for Apex Legends Season 21: Upheaval, which launches today on May 7. This trailer gives players a better look at the new playable Legend Alter and her abilities, which seem to center around creating portals for surprise attacks or quick getaways. Season 21 also brings the usual slew of map changes and balancing updates, in addition to a Solos Takeover event.

Apex Legends Season 21: Upheaval adds Alter as new playable Legend

Apex Legends is introducing a new legend in Season 21, and by the looks of it, she isn’t going to be one of the good guys. Alter hails from another dimension, travelling through worlds using Void tech to bear witness to one apocalypse after another. After being drawn to various worlds on the brink of destruction, she discovered a common denominator between them all - leading her to this world, seeking what she hopes to be the grandest apocalypse of all.

Alter’s abilities reflect her Void-based technology. She can remotely interact with any deathbox to claim an item using her Passive ability Gift from the Rift. Her Tactical, Void Passage, allows her to create portal passageways through any surface. Her Ultimate Ability Void Nexus lets all of her allies create a one-way portal to a specific location. Her abilities seem focused on creating opportunities for a team to make quick escapes or sudden ambushes.

Season 21 will also bring various map changes to Broken Moon, which is now floating in outer space, causing the Terraformer to adapt by mutating the environment. You’ll notice new points of interest and a remade map center, while other locations have been slightly edited to give players better cover. Solos mode is also taking over from Duos mode, allowing players to play on an Outlands map with readily kitted-out weapons and the battle sense ability.

Apex Legends Season 21 launches on May 7.
