Pokimane is leaving Twitch, but hasn’t announced plans to stream anywhere else yet.
Popular Twitch streamer Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys has announced her departure from the platform, effective immediately. The content creator posted on Twitter/X to announce her departure this week, calling it the, “end of an era,” and that it’s time to, “say thank you for all the memories and love during my League, Fortnite, & Among Us days.”
Pokimane hasn’t announced any plans to start streaming on other platforms, so it’s possible that she’s moving on to other forms of content creation for now.
Pokimane leaves Twitch
Pokimane created her Twitch account all the way back in 2013, quickly gaining popularity on the platform thanks to her commentary on games like League of Legends and Fortnite. She eventually became one of Twitch’s most well-known streamers and partners, participating in TwitchCon and Twitch Creator Camp in recent years. In 2020, the streamer signed a multi-year exclusivity contract to stream on Twitch and re-signed with the platform in 2022.
If the contract hasn't already expired this year, it looks like Pokimane is ending it early. For its part, Twitch seems largely supportive - the company replied to Pokimane’s goodbye tweet saying, “What an incredible journey it’s been. We’re so proud of everything you’ve accomplished and what’s ahead in the future. You’ll always have a home on Twitch, Poki.” The replies are filled with similarly-worded goodbye messages from other content creators and fans, wishing her well as she leaves Twitch for good.
This announcement isn’t exactly out of left field. In 2022, Pokimane said that Twitch, “feels like ‘been there, done that’," and that she would start streaming less to focus on her other social media channels on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Her final Twitch stream happened four days ago, where she played Palworld and VALORANT.
Pokimane could join other streaming platforms like Kick, Facebook and YouTube, but it’s more likely that she’s stepping away from the streaming world altogether for now. Twitch itself is facing bigger problems, as Amazon laid off hundreds of staff from the streaming company and Prime Video earlier this month.
