Blizzard’s ambitious three-expansion World of Warcraft storyline begins in 2024.
Blizzard Entertainment has revealed its roadmap for World of Warcraft and World of Warcraft: Classic’s upcoming updates in 2024. The former MMORPG is getting the first of three ambitious connected expansions next year, while the latter gets Cataclysm Classic and more Season of Discovery content.
What Blizzard has planned for World of Warcraft in 2024
Blizzard is populating 2024 with big content drops for World of Warcraft and World of Warcraft: Classic, but we’ll dig into the retail version first. The ongoing expansion Dragonflight will get three more updates before it ends, with one of them seemingly pirate-themed. These updates will likely wrap Dragonflight’s story up in preparation for the Worldsoul Saga, and include some already-confirmed changes to dungeons and other activities.
Things start to get heated in late Spring and early Summer next year, when the beta and pre-patch for The War Within expansion go live. This will be the first taste players get of the Worldsoul Saga, a three-expansion-long storyline that runs through The War Within, Midnight and The Last Titan. While each expansion takes players to different environments with individual stories, everything’s meant to build up to The Last Titan ultimately.
The War Within will have a full launch in Summer 2024, followed by post-launch updates and a 20th anniversary event in Autumn. Here’s a more detailed 2024 roadmap for World of Warcraft:
World of Warcraft Classic won’t be forgotten either, despite everything going on in the retail version. The game’s Season of Discovery will get new updates throughout the year, with increased level caps, new runes and new endgame activities. Classic’s Hardcore Mode will add a ‘Self-Found’ mode that limits players from getting the help of others in their journey through the game, making things even harder for them.
Cataclysm Classic arrives in the game next Spring/Summer with a pre-patch and a later full launch, adding a ton of new-but-old content for players to take on. That includes a new campaign along with more dungeons, zones and more. In Summer/Autumn, we’ll get post-launch Cataclysm updates, and endgame updates for Season of Discovery to end the year.
2024 will be an eventful year for Warcraft players, whether they’re into Classic or the retail version. Plus, there’s always Warcraft Rumble if you’re not into either of those!
