Mortal Kombat 1 will take up whopping 100GB of storage space

Mortal Kombat 1’s system requirements aren’t too high, but its install size is going to be a pain.

The Steam page for Mortal Kombat 1 has just gone live, revealing system requirements for the game on PC. This is NetherRealm’s big reboot of the iconic fighting game series, which uses the events of Mortal Kombat 11 to effectively reset this universe and its characters for an all-new story. It’s also a whopper of a game, taking up 100GB of storage space on PCs.

For anyone who isn’t rocking a high-end PC (most people, probably), worry not: Mortal Kombat 1 should run fine on most mid-range systems. The game’s minimum system requirements ask for 8GB of RAM and a GTX 980/Radeon RX 470/Intel Arc A750, for example. The recommended specs require a GTX 1080 Ti or RX 5700 XT, so it should look great on older PCs while running at a solid framerate.

The only issue is that it’s so damn big. The Steam page confirms that Mortal Kombat 1 requires 100GB of storage space to install, which is going to be a big ask for people who also have other massive games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 installed. The reason for this huge amount of required space is likely simple: cosmetics, cinematics, audio files and extra game modes like the Krypt are going to bulk things up.

Here are the system requirements for your perusal:

  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 100 GB available space

Mortal Kombat 1 will bring characters new and old back to the fighting roster in a rebooted universe formed by Fire God Liu Kang. Character backstories are being mixed around for this new entry, and the relationships we’ve become familiar with no longer apply. New gameplay additions include ‘Kameo fighters’, which will apparently help players during matches. New game modes will also be available, but we’ll have to wait on specifics from NetherRealm for now.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19.
