The collab looks to bring the Vocaloid pop star to the upcoming expansion of Magic: the Gathering, set in a Japanese-inspired cyberpunk plane.
The official French Magic: the Gathering (MtG) Twitter account dropped a post teasing an MtG X Hatsune Miku crossover, likely to take place in the universe of MtG's latest expansion - Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty.
The image showcases Miku against a Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty background holding some MtG cards. The tweet translates to: "We will tell you everything, tomorrow, at around 3 pm."
Consequently, they changed their account image and banner to feature the iconic virtual star with long, turquoise twintails. The tweet then caught on wildfire when MtG's official English Twitter account reshared it, which promptly confirms that this crossover is certainly legit.
With Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, an expansion that fuses traditional Japanese culture and futuristic cyberpunk aesthetics, the virtual pop star seems to fit into the world like a glove.
Now, the majority of speculations floating on various social media predict that this is likely an MtG x Hatsune Miku Secret Lair Drop collection. Think of the Secret Lair drop as a collaboration with all sorts of artists, styles, genres that you've never seen on a Magic card before. Each of these drops is time-limited, and according to Wizards of the Coast, "each drop is print-to-order", which means whoever orders one, gets one.
While another cluster of MtG fans (like myself), are hoping that the crossover might include Hatsune Miku alternate art variants on MtG Arena as well. Thankfully, we will know more soon.
Based on the spoilers thus far, this set is truly embracing the theme while incorporating many pop-cultural references including this gem,
