Saurians are the newest additions to Genshin Impact’s growing exploration mechanics.
Wondering what each Saurian can do to help ease your journey throughout the nation of fire? We’ve got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know about these friendly dragons!
What are Saurians?
Saurians are dragons that can be found all over Natlan, and are an integral part of the nation’s sprawling ecosystem.
Saurians are also different from all the other dragons in Teyvat, as after having undergone years of development and evolution, they have formed close bonds with Natlan’s people and are generally domesticated to become companions.
Saurians gain their strength from Phlogiston, a unique Natlan power source. Doing specific specialised actions continuously will allow a Saurian to use Phlogiston, much like a regular stamina bar.
Saurians can regain consumed Phlogiston and heal themselves by interacting with various Phlogiston sources like the Everflame Seeds structures, picking up a Flaming Seed of Phlogiston, or interacting with Phlogiston-infused flora like Candle Mushrooms or Flamegranates.
Saurian Indwelling
As we begin our journey in Natlan, we will encounter a peculiar and unique exploration mechanic called Saurian Indwelling - a unique transformation process we can undertake to possess the body of specific Saurians and utilise their set of skills. Currently, there are 3 types of Saurians you can indwell: the Tepetlisaurus, the Yumkasaurus, and the Koholasaurus.
Tepetlisaurus

The Tepetlisaurus is a rotund bipedal Saurian characterised by their round bellies, general girth, and brown and amber colouration.
Known to be associated with the tribe of Children of the Echoes, the Tepetlisaurus is renowned for its expert mining prowess, aiding the tribe in excavating for valuable minerals and carving pathways through rugged canyons.
When indwelling a Tepetlisaurus, you will gain the ability to burrow underground with a tap of the skill button. You will also be able to climb cliff faces and access hidden tunnels swiftly. You can even dive into the ground like a land-dwelling dolphin by pressing the jump button while burrowing! Ores can also be easily mined by the Tepetlisaurus by simply attacking ore veins.
The Tepetlisaurus can attack by smashing against enemies with their drill horns when the Normal Attack button is pressed. The elemental DMG type this Saurian can inflict is Geo.
Yumkasaurus

The Yumkasaurus is a bipedal Saurian that looks like a mix between a kangaroo and a fennec fox, characterised by its strong hind legs, thick tail and green-orange colouration.
The Yumkasaurus is beloved by extreme sports lovers among the Scions of the Canopy tribe for its unparalleled agility, which allows it to expertly and quickly hurl itself into the air with the aid of its Flamegranate Pectin.
The Flamegranate Pectin is a special material which can be found within the cheek pouches of a Yumkasaurus, and can be spat out to form an incredibly strong thread that they can use to wrap around Coilgrass Sigils to lift themselves into the air.
Coilgrass Sigils are symbols found across Natlan that are used both by the Yumkasaurus and The Scions of the Canopy as latches for their grappling hooks.
Exploration in higher altitudes of Natlan is remarkably easier thanks to the Yumkasaurus, as you can easily reach the tops of trees, buildings and even mountains by pressing the skill button.
The Yumkasaurus is also a formidable fighter, as it can utilise its thick tail to propel itself into the air to perform a claw attack when you tap the NA button. The elemental DMG type this Saurian can inflict is Dendro.
Koholasaurus

The Koholasaurus is a quadrupedal Saurian that looks like a shark that's evolved to grow legs. It is characterised by its sleek shark-like features and blue colouration. It can typically be found in areas with bodies of water.
The Koholasaurus is known for its high-speed swimming, making it a popular Saurian for the People of the Springs tribe. It is also the only Saurian with the capability to move on dangerous Liquid Phlogiston.
Exploration in waterways is easier thanks to the Koholosaurus’ speedy swimming. Although there is no special move available when pressing the skill button, pressing the dash button will allow it to perform an Aquadash to charge forward swiftly. The elemental DMG type this Saurian can inflict is Hydro.
