Dota 2 Bali Major: Team and hero statistics

With the group stage of the Bali Major done, we take a look at the team and hero statistics from the 150 games played.

The final DPC Major of the season, the Bali Major, is halfway done. The group stage is in the rearview mirror, and the playoffs are set to begin. Six teams out of the 18 that entered the fray travel back without a chance to show their skills in the playoffs, but the remaining 12 have all to play for, with multiple teams fighting to ensure a direct invite to The International 2023 (TI12).

Over the week, 150 games were played as a part of the Bali Major group stage, including the two best-of-2 tiebreakers that went the distance. A total of 102 heroes were picked, leaving only 22 heroes without any consideration. As we head into the playoffs of the tournament, let’s take a look at the team and hero statistics for the group stage games. All data has been taken from datDota.

Bali Major group stage team statistics

Bali Major group stage hero statistics

Total games played: 150
Total heroes picked: 102
Number of heroes unpicked or unbanned: 16

Most picked heroes:
1) Techies (68 games, 30wins, 44.12% win rate)
2) Pugna (57 games, 33 wins, 57.89% win rate)
3) Ember Spirit (56 games, 27 wins, 48.21% win rate)

Most contested heroes:
1) Morphling (Picked or banned 146 games, 97.33% contest rate)
2) Timbersaw (Picked or banned 137 games, 91.33% contest rate)
3) Techies (Picked or banned 123 games, 82% contest rate)

Most banned heroes:
1) Timbersaw (banned in 101 games)
2) Morphling (banned in 96 games)
3) Enchantress (banned in 79 games)

Heroes with the highest win rate (20 games or more):
1) Broodmother (36 picks, 69.44% win rate)
2) Clockwerk (21 picks, 76.19% win rate)
3) Mars (20 picks, 55% win rate)

Heroes with lowest win rate (15 games or more):
1) Terrorblade (21 picks, 33.33% win rate)
2) Beastmaster (27 picks, 37.04% win rate)
3) Tidehunter (34 picks, 41.18% win rate)

Morphling and Timbersaw seem to be heroes that are firmly lodged in the brains of all teams, with both of them having a contest rate of over 90%. Morphling has been contested in nearly every game, and will be one of the heroes to get hit by the nerf hammer after the Bali Major. But he is also one to keep an eye out for in the playoffs. Niche picks like Broodmother and Clockwerk are doing well when picked in the right setting, and Pugna the healing and mana replenishing lord is making waves in the meta, especially sitting behind heroes like Storm Spirit.

Gaimin Gladiators have already won the first two DPC Majors of the 2022-2023 Dota 2 season. They’ve qualified for TI12, and for them, winning this would be more about making history. The defending Major champions have looked shaky though, dropping six games in the group stages, including a 0-2 loss against BetBoom Team, who are quickly becoming worthy rivals for them. Other teams to watch out for in the playoffs are Team Liquid, who have found form again after a minor slump, Quest Esports, who are the surprise team of the tour, and the Chinese power house, PSG.LGD, who seem to have found their footing with the new roster. It is bound to be an interesting week of Dota 2 as the DPC season draws to an end.

As a parting thought, here’s a look at the unique heroes played by every player in the group stage games of the Bali Major.
