FaZe Clan has announced that they have decided to drop out of the World eSports Association after criticism from fans.
Following ESL's official announcement of WESA, the controversial organization that was founded to help unify esports policies starting with their in-house Pro League, a number of prominent members of the CS:GO community expressed their concern about the possible negative effects of WESA over time. Now, one of the founding WESA member teams, FaZe Clan, has revealed that they will be leaving the organization due to their own concerns about the direction of it, releasing a lengthy a statement on Facebook on the matter. Read some of the key excerpts below:
What is not true is that a team that wants to leave will have to pay a penalty. WESA would never penalize organizations for having a difference of opinion and they respect our decision. Finally, WESA and ESL are two different organizations. ESL has been good to us, showed understanding and assured us that even if we aren’t in WESA, we’ll be invited to their leagues and tournaments. In other words: We are leaving on good terms.”
At the time of writing, no other teams have indicated they will be following FaZe Clan in leaving WESA, leaving the organization with seven remaining teams.
