Jonatan "Devilwalk" Lundberg has left his coaching position in Fnatic to return to competitive play.
In June of last year, Jonatan "Devilwalk" Lundberg, captain of Fnatic at the time, stepped down from his position in the team to make rooom for the two additions to the team, Freddy "KRiMZ" Johansson and Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer, as well as to fill a much needed coaching role outside of the game.
The Swedish player has now revealed that he will be stepping down from the role of coach in order to reignite his competitive career outside of Fnatic, reportedly with the remnants of Team Property's lineup. To fill the spot, Fnatic will be bringing in Viktor ”vuggo” Jendeby, who coached not only Property but Fnatic as well at ESL One Katowice.
Jonatan has since our CS:GO division’s inception in 2013 been a pivotal part of our team’s foundation and success, both during his time as an active player, and of course in the coaching role he took on last year when we added Krimz and Olofmeister to our roster.
Patrik "cArn" Sättermon, Fnatic's CGO, statement on the move:
I’m positive that Jonatan will have a great opportunity to add more success stories to his resume and I have nothing but respect and understanding for his decision to return as a player, considering his young age and a game that is still rapidly growing.
I would like to emphasize that this change has been in the making for a while and therefore we will be able to introduce Jonatan’s replacement in the following days. Despite that we are at least temporarily saying farewell to one of the best, if not the best coach on the planet, I have huge confidence in our team and the new coach, and I firmly believe that we will remain a powerhouse of international Counter-Strike.
On behalf of the players and the entire organisation I would like to use this moment to thank Jonatan for all his hard work and at the same time wish him the best of luck in the future.”
