2013 WCS Europe has its first champion - IM's Terran Jong Hyun "Mvp" Jung - who lifted the premiear league cup after a 4-1 victory over French mastermind Stephano.
If throughout the group stage Mvp's skill always came second best to someone else, it was definitely not the case during the playoffs weekend in Cologne, Germany. The most accomplished Terran in StarCraft 2 crushed through both TLO and Dimaga without dropping a single set and stormed into the grand final series on the back of a huge momentum.
Against him stood none other than reigning WCS Europe champion and Zerg player extraordinaire, Ilyes "Stephano" Satouri himself, who wouldn't let go of his title so easily. As the countdown towards the first game on Bel'Shir Vestige hit zero, the final battle for the first ever WCS EU season for 2013 began.
Got off his 3-1 against ForGG, Stephano took on the legendary terran and through his characteristically grand playstyle was able to pull ahead in the series, besting Mvp's bio in a macro game of highest quality. After a cumulative 6-0 throughout the weekend, Stephano was the first to remind Mvp that he too can bleed.
In the grand scheme of things, however, this would only be the game that awakens the beast. In all the games which followed, Mvp and his playstyle changed and evolved from one set to another, never giving Stephano the comfort of predicting. Be it mech, standard bio or hellion/hellbat pushes, every execution of Mvp was precise and hurtful. While putting up an admirable fight in the better part of those games, Stephano was forced into four GGs in a row. The title was Mvp's.
This is the second premier league trophy for Mvp after his victory at IEM Cologne. With $20,000 now richer, Mvp - along with the 2nd-5th place finishers - will look forward to increase his winnings at the Season 1 finals in Korea next month.
