Fnatic is a well known multigaming clan, who've now decided to take in a Broodwar squad. And the talent they have signed a definitely not something to be ignored.
The lineup is impressive to say the least. F91, JayStar and Phoenix66 will be quite the obstacle for any foreign clan, and if SEn returns to his old form he's nearly unstoppable. In addition there are two comparatively unknown players in lbh and JukeBox, and it should be interesting to see what they are capable of; they have already proven to be strong players, though. Do read the Fnatic announcement news as it includes both replay packs and interviews with the players. Exciting stuff.
We spoke briefly with the new Fnatic manager and asked him some questions.
Like what you can actually read from the interviews. We've done a lot of trials in ICCup and we didn't have a single problem playing with players from different countries. The worst case we've encountered is probably "high latency" on Iccup which is much better compared to bnet speed. I believe the chinese internet has improved a lot recently. Even the players are surprised about that.
About the two relatively unknown players. jukebox and lbh. Why did you pick these guys and what do you expect of them compared to the other, more established players?
I've figured from the beginning that both of these two would be unknown among the community. Firstly I would say LBH maybe less known compared to the other chinese players but he is definitely not unknown in the Chinese community. This guy has proven himself by beating LX in a China national tournament this year. I've also gotten him some top european players to play against and i can assure you that he is definitely not worse than any of the top European Zerg at the moment.
As for jukebox, we've been friends since wcg 2005 when he was kind enough to lead me and sen to visit singapore. He has proven himself many times by winnning the WCG national final of singapore. I believe he has the talent given enough training to be the next good zerg. The most notable of his achievement would be beating Zealotito in group stage WCG Grand Final 2005 :) Yes thats not too much of an impresssive achievement but if you watch his replays you know that he has the talent and skills to compete with the best.
Will you look to make it even stronger with more recruits or are you happy with the current amount of players? If you're considering more players, do you have anyone on the shortlist?
As for now I believe our roster is big enough to participate in any of the Clan leagues but of course I will consider to make it stronger if there are some good choices out there in the future given that we will be needing that incase JUST incase the connection problems of our chinese players come back again. Else I think I will stick with this lineup in the short time and concentrate in making my players stronger as the reason why I'm happy with the current lineup is not only because of their skills but also because of our close relationship with each other. To be honest I think my choices for the recruits in the future would be a good protoss or terran player since we have quite an amount of zerg monsters in the team already.
MYM is mentioned quite a few times in the article on fnatics site. Do you consider them to be the main rivals or are there also other teams you're eager to prove yourself against?
MYM is obviously the strongest non korea BW team at the moment. I would consider ToT MYM and LRM as our main rivals but honestly it's gonna take quite some time for us to get to division 1 and compete against them unless miracle happens ^^. But for sure we will try to arrange some friendly clan wars against the top teams in the near future. The other reason why I am this eager to play against MYM is also due to my friendship with the current MYM managers like MaX, Archi and LastNight. They are all really nice persons and we used to play with each other a lot when I was in MYM. Even now after I've left MYM , MaX is still kind enough to help me whenever I need any this is also why I would like to play against his team. Not to forget that I am also a former MYM manager so it's definitely great to face my old team to see how much stronger it has become..
There was a news about this on mymym a few days ago, but it was never confirmed and there was a rumour they were asked to take the news down. Any reason for the delay as it seems they were right on the money?
As far as I know the news in MYM is still up but I admit we've actually requested them to take down the news to show a sign of respect since we would appreciate if the other news sources would wait for us to officially announce it first before they work on it. The delay is mainly due to players contracts problem as our players had some problems to look for a scanner and it's definitely not easy for me to do all the interviews and translate them into English in such a short time so this is why we have the delay. I want the news to be as interesting as possible and big when it is released so I have put quite a lot of effort on it. David "Augury" Ratajczak has done a really great job in making the newspost so he deserves the credits as well.
Anything else you'd like to mention?
For the viewers out there, please show some support to the team by downloading the demos only from Fnatic.com so that it would prove to Fnatic that they have made the right choice to take us! I know it may sound troublesome to register on the site but it is definitely not hard to do so. Just fill up a few columns and validate the email then you're set to get some really really good replays from the packs! Trust me!
