The first season of competitive Overwatch is coming to an end. Want to try climbing into the top 500? Or maybe you haven’t even done the placement matches yet? Don’t worry, there’s still (some) time.
Blizzard launched the first season of competitive play on June 28th, and now it’s coming to an end. On Wednesday August 17 5PM PDT/August 18 2AM CEST, season one will officially end. There’s even a currently scheduled date for when season 2 is supposed to start: September 6th. But, “...this could shift as we continue to work on system improvements. We will be sure to share the exact date and time as we get closer to its release." Blizzard says in their official post.
So, anything worth doing before the season ends? Well, if you complete the placement matches, you will be eligible to receive a special spray and player icon. These will be unlocked for you the next time you log in, after the season has ended. Other than that, you can still try and break into top 500 to receive the special animated spray, and another player icon.
If you still haven’t gathered all of those 300 competitive points needed to buy the golden weapon for the hero of your choice, don’t worry! Depending on the skill rating you end the season on, you will receive a certain amount of points. Here’s the breakdown for that:
- SR 0-39: 10 CPs
- SR 40-45: 20 CPs
- SR 46-49: 40 CPs
- SR 50-52: 60 CPs
- SR 53-55: 80 CPs
- SR 56-59: 120 CPs
- SR 60-64: 200 CPs
- SR 65+: 300 CPs

Good luck with the last minute grind!
