Backed by race cars, models, and even pole dancers, WGT 2010 generated quite the media frenzy:

However, this circus was merely a backdrop for the main event: gaming. In Warcraft III, the drama began in the group stage, where two players were forced to decline tournament attendance for personal reasons: Anonhe and aotuman. Filling in for the absentees were Blast and Yumiko. Aside from a few minor upsets, the group stage was relatively predictable. In Group A, Tuo_Xie and Una advanced as Yumiko and Pigmiss fell by the wayside.

In Group B, the results were far closer. Although Sky overcame TeD, he failed to fend off a furious upset bid from Otaku (AKA: EleGaNt). However, the effort was frustratingly insufficient, as EleGaNt lost his remaining matches by a score of 1:2 against both TeD and Wulin. Thus, although Sky won the group, he managed to do so only by virtue of his match ratio.

In the winner's bracket, Sky's elf mirror play proved stronger than both TH000 and Infi. However, when Sky switched back to Human after round one of his match against Infi, his former teammate turned the tables and won 2-1 as Night Elf.

In the loser's bracket, Sky's predictions of Una's brimming talent bore immediate fruit. The World Elite darling overcame both Ted and Sai before finally falling to ReMinD, the loser's bracket victor. Notably however, Una's loss to ReMinD did not result from a standard GG. During their 3rd game, the World Elite greenhorn was dropped from the game due to a bad connection. Accordingly, because ReMinD held in excess of a 20% advantage, the match was called in his favor. The finals pitted the two most recent World-Cyber-Game winners against each another.

Infi secured a 2-1 victory and pocketed a tidy sum of 20,000 RMB ~ $3,018. Infi's victory makes him the first player to win a WGT since the tournament's reinstatement and the second human player to win the tournament.
