Rito's given us quite a handful of gifts this season, from the all-important skins tab, a state-of-the-art replay system, nerfing ardent censer, and soon, we'll be getting a taste of League's own in-client tournament feature, Clash.
What is Clash?
Clash is a team-based competitive mode where players can come together in premades to participate in a thrilling and intense competition on par of that to esports play.
In Clash, players will need to assemble their premade teams during the weekdays and then compete in a series of single-elimination brackets during the weekend.
According to the Dev report, Clash aims to provide players the "ultimate team experience" no matter what elo you're in, assuring a level playing field that's fun and competitive for everyone involved with some pretty cool rewards to boot.
How will it work?
The in-game tournament feature will utilize adaptive tier-based matchmaking wherein brackets will be divided into four matchmaking tiers depending on a team's overall skill level.
Before the start of each tournament, players will be able to scout their upcoming rivals throughout the tournament run, giving dedicated teams an early edge through the draft phase.
Using a newly-introduced Ticket system as a "buy-in" to join the tournament bout, teams will be competing in a 4-team bracket on the first day of the weekend.
As teams progress in wins throughout the course of the weekend, they will proceed to an 8-team bracket on the second day and a final 16-team bracket in the third and final day.
However, if your team loses, you can still enter a fresh new bracket on the remaining days of the weekend.
So don't worry if you missed that crucial Baron smite on the first day, you'll have a shot at redemption in the following days of the tourney!
What's at stake?
Win or lose, participants in the tournament will be receiving Clash Capsules that include a guaranteed 3-win XP boost, standard loot items (which include champion, champion skin, and ward skin shards), and a Clash logo for flair.
Of course however, this means that the farther your team's run in the tournament bracket, the grander the prizes up for grabs.
Additionally, the more tickets you buy-in for the tournament, the more capsules you'll earn, and if you win more matches, the better the rewards in your capsules.
What does this mean for League of Legends?
With the introduction of Clash in the League ecosystem, players will be able to experience the thrill of competitive esports play from the ground up. The introduction of a team-oriented game mode that focuses on coordinated play and drafting will be a refreshing learning experience for bronzies to aspiring pros.
Now although we all might not be able to hold the Summoner's Cup like Faker has, we'll get a chance to experience of what it feels like to be a champion.
Clash is set to release in the early stages of Season 8, as such, changes might come and go while the tournament mode is in its development.
