The CIS region is currently walking through deep struggles, as they not only went out of the DreamHack Summer 2013 festivities without a success - now they once again dropped had limited success in their own "CIS vs. EU" showmatch tournament.
On the heels of a 0-9 performance of the CIS representatives of iTS at DreamHack Summer 2013, the next setback already occurred today. All four CIS squads were eliminated in the Group Stage yet again, following the recipe of the second edition of the tournament. Only in the first installment of this cup the CIS teams came close to gaining the bragging rights in the continental clash, when iTS and GZ reached the Semifinals and iTS even made it to the Grand Finals. Ultimately that tournament was won by One Trick Pony, but still the CIS representation gave them a run for their money.
This time all four European teams were too much to handle for the Garena teams with Vietnamese Dream Team winning Group A over locomotives and the two CIS teams of 6u4u and the disappointing flagship of the region with Cats Gaming. After the most recent resurgence of Cats in the G1-Spring, the team around GuessWho couldn't win a single map and went 0-3 in the process.
In Group B Lions eSports ruled supreme over the Group with three victories, edging out "The 4 friends and Buch" team around TPSPriceless. iTS managed to take out the CIS rivals of Meka in the first game of the stage, but couldn't find another moment of success against the two European teams. The DreamHack participant therefore went out and left the stage for a European showdown - yet again.
The Semifinals were held in a Best-of-One format as well, similar to the Group stage. According to the placements in the groups the sensation of DreamHack, vdT had to face 4 friends and Buch in the Semis, while Lions eSports squared off against locomotives with Jollem and NoVa playing for them. Lions eSports justified their top placement in the group and eliminated loco, even after trailing early in the contest - Vietnamese Dream Team on the other side had to suffer defeat. The Group A Champs could not close the deal against the "mixed" team of old Pikachu members and Team Excellent players and got eliminated right there.
So the Grand Finals were Lions eSports with reigning Champion Jonassomfan and the team around Buch. Once again Lions eSports absolutely dominated the friendship squad that was set to represent TPSPriceless' new team, but two people of the main roster of him had to decline the participation. So Buch and Karmadias stepped in for the event. Still they made it to the finals, eliminating the "Team of the Moment" with vdT in a completely one-sided affair, but the veterans of Lions eSports were in a whole different class today.
The Swedish team takes home the title for the European continent and the $500 USD for the first place. "The 4 friends and Buch" gain $250 USD, vdT and locomotive round out the Top 4 of the event.
