Blizzard doubles down on player loyalty by upping Heroes 2.0 Veteran rewards

After much debating on Reddit, Blizzard speaks up about veteran players in Heroes 2.0 and drastically ups rollover rewards. You can read more about that debate in our previous post here.

Blizzard doubles down on rewarding veterans

In a surprise post today, Blizzard announced a drastic increase in rewards going to our more Veteran players. This change doubles down on Blizzard's commitment to rewarding their more senior players. The previous reward details can be found here, while the newly announced reward details can be found here.

Real-life example case

I'll use my own account as an example, showing exactly how much more drastic these reward changes are.

According to the current Heroes system, I have a total hero level of 476, with 3,253 games played. I have 3 heroes above level 10, 39 heroes above level 8, and only 2 heroes under level 5.

You can check your own account in-game by clicking on your portrait and reviewing your Profile Summary and Hero Collection tabs.

Using rough estimates, in the old system I would have earned something like this:

Old Heroes 2.0 loot rollover reward example:

Level 476

  • 35-40 common loot chests
  • 19 rare loot chests
  • 4 epic loot chests

New Heroes 2.0 loot rollover reward example:

Level 476

  • 5 common loot chests
  • 0 rare loot chests
  • 43 epic loot chests
  • 4 veteran loot chests
  • 1 30-day stimpack

Is there something to take away from this announcement?

As a veteran player myself, a couple really important messages stood out to me from this announcement.

  • Blizzard is clearly listening to their community and trying hard to be more transparent and more responsive about Heroes.
  • Blizzard wants players to know they are valued.
  • Blizzard values loyalty to the game.

In the big scheme of things, it only makes sense for Blizzard to keep their community happy. If the Heroes of the Storm community thrives, the size and scope of the game and its prestige as an esport can grow. It's almost becoming a cliche but, there's never been a better time to be a Heroes of the Storm player.
