What the new Hero League rankings means to you.

Whether you were previously a rank #1 player or never quite made it to the top, here are how the upcoming changes will change the way you rank up.

With the dawn of a new patch, everyone has been given 20 placement matches to prove just how rank 1 worthy they are. The intention by Blizzard, is to make every game of Hero League matter and remove the "anyone-can-get-to-rank-1-with-enough-games" stigma.

Placement matches are supposed to help this by placing the high skill players where they are supposed to be. As usual, the gripes of the solo que Heroes player still exists; nothing is going to change your teams ability to lose a game you may be playing perfectly. However, as the MMR rating of each player has been retained, you can at least expect the same level of play before the wipe.

All of this (placement matches including) are in preparation for the Grand Master rank that has yet to be implemented. You may have noticed that the preseason is still in session, and it will remain so until Grand Master rank is introduced.

So how does this affect you? For one thing, maintaining Rank 1 will be harder than it ever was before, due to the restructuring of how points are allocated. This is likely due to Blizzards plans on making the Grand Master league "truly" represent the top 2 percent of Heroes players.
