The famous gaming convention will be the final proving ground for the top four nations according to the HGG players’ rulebook.
48 nations are slated to take part in Blizzard’s first national cup for Hearthstone and from the looks of it that is going to be a grand marathon. The league itself is scheduled to begin on April 11 and will feature two group stages feeding into a single elimination bracket as the playoffs.

The round of 48 will go on for a total of ten weeks, ending mid-June, and from there the league will have up until the end of August to complete the rest of the matches. At the time of the report, the player handbook given out to all HGG participants mentions the annual gaming convention Gamescom as the host location for the finals in the week of August 23-26 in Cologne. The four top nations remaining from the top 16 bracket will be flown to contest the lion’s share of the $300,000 total prize pool.
Blizzard games have been recurring guests on Gamescom grounds. In 2016, the convention hosted both the Europe Fall Regional for Heroes of the Storm and the finals of the Overwatch Atlantic Showdown. For Hearthstone, this will be the first truly major tournament to be held at Gamescom, the previous one being the WCA Europe Finals.
